Confession Of My Addiction!

Confession Of My Addiction

We started this year by encouraging you to think about and reflect upon what is most important to you. We then asked you to take a look at how you currently see yourself and how you would like to see yourself in the future. Next we asked you to create a physical identity that supports the version of the person you would like to become.  If there is a gap between the two, then we want you to know we are here to support you anyway we can in closing that gap.

During my own personal reflection, I uncovered one of my addictions. I confess that I am addicted to progress, positive change, improvement or what ever you want to call it. I derive immense satisfaction from the feeling of getting a little better or helping someone else do the same. “Closing the Gap” is my addiction.

The story I tell myself and the one I choose to believe is that we can always find a way to improve. The Japanese word, Kaizen, is one of my favorite words. Translated it means constant and never ending improvement or progression. That progress will not always be linear and from time to time it may not only plateau but regress. However, I believe if you are curious enough to ask the right questions and keep working toward progress that you can always find a way to improve over time. Sometimes this progress may be slow, but small incremental micro wins stack up over time.

In many ways this can be a good thing but in some ways I now realize it can have some negative aspects also. I am always seeking a better way and if you have known me for very long you will know that I am always tinkering with how to make our training better. So, if you like the status quo and enjoy doing things exactly the same way over time you may find my approach a little disturbing.

I also believe that I am blessed to be able to see potential in others, but I admit when I feel someone is not fulfilling that potential that I can become frustrated and impatient. I realize it is not our job as coaches to “make” you fulfill your potential in the gym but we do wish to be your “Ally” in doing so if you will let us.

This is why I believe it is so important for you to share your goals with your coaches. Please don’t “Dare to Dream.” I believe all of us have much untapped potential but maybe you don’t see it in yourself. Even if you do see it, maybe you don’t know how to unleash it.

Everyday during my gratitude practice I express gratitude for our clients and students who trust us to lead them on their heroic journey. I also express my gratitude for our great coaches who have a passion for and support our mission to help you close the gap. Please take advantage of my addiction and our passion and let us help you to become the best version of yourself. We have coaches that can help you come up with a plan if you just ask.
