Previously, we began discussing the Bioenergetics Checklist which focuses on 6 components to “charge your battery” and help you increase your overall energy and life force. Those six components are:
- Movement and Exercise
- Food
- Water
- Light
- Grounding
- Oxygen
In regards to exercise, I referred to our definition of exercise as being “mindful movement or activity with the primary purpose to stimulate or set in motion a positive physical adaption within the body as safely, effectively, and efficiently as possible.” I also, referenced our BLOG for information on our specific brand of exercise which we describe by the acronym, HELIMO Quantified Strength Training and my view on the Distinction between Movement and Exercise.
This week I would like to focus a bit more on “movement” in general. One common thread I see between exercise and movement is “Mindfulness.” I spoke of “Mindful Mastery” when speaking of how to optimize your exercise, but you definitely can have this same intent with movement in general.
Although there are a host of benefits from mindful movement, a couple that we should all be aware of are:
1. It leads to better performance due to the efficiency of movement
2. It lowers the risk of injury while performing the movements we enjoy
A simple but powerful key to optimal movement is learning to integrate three components.
1. Movement
2. Structure/Posture
3. Breath
Integrating your movement with your structure/posture and your breath is a great place to start when considering movement that will empower you to move both efficiently and safely.
We have several videos on our YouTube channel detailing exercise performance for several movements utilized in our HELIMO Quantified Strength Training program.
We have also been focusing on “Mindful Movement” in our mobility classes. We currently offer these classes free to members on Monday and Wednesday at 9:00am. We will be adding a Friday Mobility class at 9:00 am starting after July 4th. The practice of Yoga Namaskar is an example of one of these practices.
Although the practice of Jiujitsu by its nature encourages some level of mindfulness, we are happy to announce we will also be adding some special classes with Darin Conner DeAngelis, where “Mindful Jiujitsu” will be a primary intention and focus.
Our hope is that what you learn by being mindful during exercise and movement will carry over to other areas of your life where it can be of great benefit. We are looking forward to helping you become more Masterful!
